Greetings,
We are empowered! It is a pleasure to welcome you to the website of the Northern Virginia Urban League Young Professionals Network (YPN). As an organization that looks forward to empowering communities while changing lives, you will find young professionals engaging in the Urban League Movement toward social and economic empowerment. As residents of Northern Virginia, African-Americans and other people of color face a unique set of challenges, like the disproportionate rates of underemployment and the educational achievement gaps that exist between black and brown children and their counterparts in our area. Throughout this website, you will discover the many scholarship, financial literacy and youth empowerment programs that YPN offers to address these disparities.
Since 1999, YPN has been serving the Northern Virginia community and our affiliate, the Northern Virginia Urban League, through a variety of solid programs built to empower communities and change lives. We focus on the National Urban League Five Point Empowerment Agenda:
- Education & Youth Empowerment
- Economic Empowerment
- Health & Quality of Life Empowerment
- Civic Engagement & Leadership Empowerment
- Civil Rights & Racial Justice Empowerment
YPN also serves as a training ground for the next generation of leaders. Through our monthly General Body Meetings, we offer a Professional Speaker Series where invited guests join us to discuss issues pertinent to the professional and personal development of our members. Lastly, in YPN we work hard but also take time to enjoy ourselves by offering social, cultural and networking opportunities for our members, friends and the community. We will do so by continuing to expand our reach to all parts of Northern Virginia.
I invite you to explore our website and learn more about the many ways YPN is working to make Northern Virginia a better place for all its citizens. Once you have discovered more, consider joining our campaign through membership, as a volunteer or through a tax-deductible financial contribution.
On behalf of the entire YPN family, thank you for visiting our website.
Yours in the Movement,
Gerald S. Padmore
